Application Process 

You’ll use the Housing & Dining Portal to start your application. Here is an overview of the parts of that process that your application will move through.  

Part 1- Roommate Questionnaire: 
  • If you plan to use the portal to search for possible roommates, answer the questions in the questionnaire.  

  • You can also write a short profile (if you do that, be sure to also check the box for ‘Show in Search Results’) 

  • Note: Part of the questionnaire asks for your hall preferences. This is simply so you can search for roommates who are interested in the same buildings. It does not mean that you are guaranteed housing in these buildings.  

Part 2 - Affinity Communities: 
  • You’ll select if you are interested in either of our special affinity communities.  

  • These communities are: 

  • Multicultural Living Community (1st Floor of Fjelstad) 

  • Sexuality and Gender Inclusion (SGI) Floors (2 floors in Park Region) 

Part 3 - Roommate Groups: 
  • This is the part of the process where you will match up with your desired roommates.  

  • You can search for people by e-mail, or search by how they answered questions in the questionnaire, or have the system recommend roommates for you.  

  • This part is important, because most of our housing selection is “occupancy match”. This means that your roommate group must fill up the room/apartment you are selecting.  

  • For example, if you are matched with one roommate, you will only be able to select rooms and apartments with two beds.  

  • If you plan to live alone, you will not select a roommate. However, remember that the number of single occupancy rooms is limited (and there are generally no single occupancy apartments, unless it is approved for a medical need by Disability Services).  

Part 4 - Housing Application Next Steps 
  • Until housing selection starts on March 18, that’s all you need to do! 

  • After March 18, you'll use the portal to shop for rooms (all based on the number of people in your roommate group)

Room Selection Process 

You’ll get more info before March 18, but the general way it works is: 

  • All current students who have started the housing application will be given a room selection time. 

  • These times will be scheduled for the evening hours of March 18 – 29 

  • Times are assigned by how many terms you have been at Concordia, and then how many credits you have earned. 

  • The roommate with the best room selection time will pick the room/apartment for the whole group.

Frequently Asked Questions 

Who is required to live on campus? 

  • Concordia has a 4 Semester Residency Requirement. This means first- and second-year students are required to live on campus (regardless of credit status). 

Who is eligible for an exemption to this Residency Requirement? 

  • First and second year students who are 21, married, have a child, or are living at home with a parent/legal guardian in the Fargo-Moorhead area are eligible for an exemption.  

  • In very rare circumstances, other students may be exempted. Contact reslife@cord.edu to learn more.  

  • Indicating that you are living at home in Fargo-Moorhead, but living somewhere else, is a violation of college policy. If you do this, you may be referred to the conduct system, fined, and/or assigned (and billed for) on-campus housing. 

This isn’t a question, but I really want my own room 

  • There are a few options you can consider as you select a room. There are a number of double-as-a-single rooms in the traditional residence halls. Bogstad Manor and Townhouse apartments allow students to have their own bedroom (but you will share the apartment with one more roommates). 

  • If you have a medical diagnosis that requires you to have your own room, you must work with Disability Services to have a special accommodation approved.   

What if I only need housing for one semester? 

  • Go through the regular housing sign-up process, and then contact reslife@cord.edu to cancel whichever semester you don’t need
